EASTER
I am currently preparing for Easter, a time when we can all come together to connect and worship in harmony for a full 24 hours. Personally, I plan to dedicate three days to prayer and worship during this special time. I am thrilled to share my positive energy with all of you and feel incredibly grateful for my health, safety, and the presence of my loving family and friends. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my Auntie, who played a significant role in my childhood by nurturing my thirst for knowledge. She gifted us children with a subscription to National Geographic, which I eagerly awaited each month. As I carefully turned the pages of each magazine, my heart would leap with excitement at the discoveries that awaited me.
I am grateful to my Auntie, through National Geographic magazine, for instilling in me a love for mathematics, the natural sciences, the biological sciences, the social sciences, art, music, and other cultures. Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of traveling extensively, meeting fascinating people from exotic lands, and immersing myself in their languages, rituals, and religions. As a child, I would spend hours alone in my room, poring over the National Geographic magazines you sent us. I was amazed by the powerful images of roaring lions, specifically the Felidae species. These majestic creatures are capable of emitting a roar that can be heard up to 5 miles away, reaching an impressive 114 decibels. Interestingly, as a child, I longed to attend what we children referred to as "Chinese school" with a friend on weekends, despite not being of Chinese descent. My friend kindly gifted me her well-loved book for my birthday, which I eagerly read and returned to her. Through this experience, I have come to understand the value of returning someone's favorite book, as it holds a special place in their heart.
Several years ago, during my travels, I had a memorable experience that reignited my passion for art. This encounter was so impactful that I have only shared it with one other person, as it significantly influenced the course of my life. I am grateful for the serendipitous meeting with a humble man in London, England. As I stepped outside a bustling theatre wrap party, I was greeted by a rush of cool air. In front of the building, there were two wrought iron chairs and a table. Seated in one of the chairs was a man dressed entirely in black. I approached him and asked if I could join him, to which he kindly agreed. In a typically exuberant manner, I introduced myself. I proceeded to share stories about my life back home, the notable individuals I had fun conversations with at the party - from the lead opera singer to a fit ballerina - and how it had been one of the best days of my life. The man then revealed that he had won two Oscars for his work on Star Wars. I expressed my admiration, recalling how I had watched the movie as a child. Our conversation continued, and eventually, he bid me farewell as he headed home, while I returned to the party.
Last year, I decided to look up Star Wars online, and there he was - the kind older man I had conversed with at the party, proudly holding his two Oscars. It became evident that he seldom divulged personal information to others, claiming to work at a biscuit factory. However, he surprisingly opened up to me. I believe it was because I exuded friendliness, a zest for life, and a sense of adventure that resonated with him. What did I glean from this encounter? I learned that some of the most influential individuals are characterized by their kindness, humility, and respect for others. I also realized that my love for art has the power to leave a lasting impact on people and bring them joy. I seldom divulged personal information to others.
